In my early days as a potter, I was attracted to bright, colorful
Mediterranean pottery and spent much time hand-painting designs
on my pots. While I still love these pieces, I find myself drawn
increasingly to the simplicity of Asian pots — their subtle
designs and colors. I love the Celadon and Temoku glazes, which
were used centuries ago in Korea and China. Because I fire with
electricity rather than with gas (or fire), I have spent time developing
glazes that are similar in appearance and quality to these ancient
glaze formulas. My Asian-inspired designs include rice bowls, soy
bottles, tea bowls, saki sets, square serving dishes, and raku pieces.
